The following is a compilation of thoughts (so-named microblogs) that I live tweeted during MSNBC’s special program tonight, Everyday Racism in America. Please take a look! Thanks!
(It might take the page a few seconds longer than usual to load.)
Really looking forward to live tweeting this town hall event. Will be ready to learn, comment, elaborate, and critique. My formal academic training/degrees very much focused on racism. #EverydayRacism

So the opening words are very much perpetuating Politics of Respectability. Yikes! #EverydayRacism— Dr. AJP Pegoda 🏳️🌈 (he/they) (@AJP_PhD) May 30, 2018

I wonder if she-who-shall-not-be named made those comments about @ValerieJarrett to hijack this conversation #EverydayRacism— Dr. AJP Pegoda 🏳️🌈 (he/they) (@AJP_PhD) May 30, 2018

Thought: White Supremacy (h/t per bell hooks) is a more important conversation than racism, per se #EverydayRacism— Dr. AJP Pegoda 🏳️🌈 (he/they) (@AJP_PhD) May 30, 2018
Let's don't underestimate the power and "currency" of her racism among a larger number of people today, sadly. #EverydayRacism

Thought: I hope the on-air conversations touches on intersectionality and positionality. People have more than a racialized identity. #EverydayRacism— Dr. AJP Pegoda 🏳️🌈 (he/they) (@AJP_PhD) May 30, 2018

Is Starbucks among the first companies to acknowledge racism and to actively seek solutions? #EverydayRacism— Dr. AJP Pegoda 🏳️🌈 (he/they) (@AJP_PhD) May 30, 2018

I'm somewhat sad to see that Tim Wise is now on the panel. His approach to privilege and racism is very counter productive and harmful, as I've written about more in the past. #EverydayRacism— Dr. AJP Pegoda 🏳️🌈 (he/they) (@AJP_PhD) May 30, 2018

Starbucks, if you make it available I'd enjoy reviewing and critiquing the training used today. Get other scholars on board, too! #EverydayRacism— Dr. AJP Pegoda 🏳️🌈 (he/they) (@AJP_PhD) May 30, 2018

So I think I remain disappointed that the conversation this time didn't acknowledge racism beyond the White Black Binary. People racialized as Asian, Hispanic, Chinese, Arab, etc face racism, too. Please cover this next#EverydayRacism— Dr. AJP Pegoda 🏳️🌈 (he/they) (@AJP_PhD) May 30, 2018
Certainly and very true, but just as Black people have faced never-ending racism, Native Americans/Indians and Mexican Americans have faced racism from day one of European colonization. And Trump is so, so dangerous

To elaborate: White Black Binary is dangerous, in part, b/c it reduces all to either being White (& thus privileged,"never" victim to racism) or Black. Often, ALL non-Black people are considered "White" legally/socially#EverydayRacism— Dr. AJP Pegoda 🏳️🌈 (he/they) (@AJP_PhD) May 30, 2018
