Christian Silence: A Poem

Christian silence:
we hear it when people are happy
and when people have gained recognition
as humans, living life to its fullest,
we hear it when people want to make change
and truly provide for people in this cruel world,
we hear it when science disproves fables
and explains mysteries that defeat all odds,
we hear it when artifacts mirror the past
and show how beautiful and wicked people are
as humans,
we hear it,
we hear silence when it comes time for action.

Christian silence:
we hear it when people are ill
and when people are suffering
as humans, hoping for a chance,
we hear it when people need a friend
and shelter and protection and rights
as humans, longing to be accepted,
we hear it when people lie and deceive,
provided that they maintain the status quo,
the dictator of everyday life,
we hear it when artifacts mirror the past
and show how beautiful and wicked people are
as humans,
we hear it,
we hear silence when it comes time for action.

Christian silence:
we hear it when most of you make a mistake,

we hear it when it’s time for you to prove “all lives matter,”
as humans, other humans should matter,
we hear it from many of you even when,
even when it comes to giving others needed medicine,
we hear it when opportunities come to change life and
challenge imperialism, White supremacy, capitalism, and patriarchy,
ideologies most of you needlessly live by,
we hear it when it comes to your worldly comforts,
we hear it where your religion has flaws,
we hear it,
we hear silence when it comes time for action.

Christian silence:
we don’t hear it when people resist the given,
we don’t hear it when change-makers resist “tradition”
attempting to better the world,
we don’t hear it when a stranger faces death
and when that stranger is different,
as humans, differences should be celebrated,
we don’t hear it when a minority achieves
and changes the world for good,
we don’t hear it when laws and ideals
are actually enforced by powerful people,
we don’t hear it when the theocracy is challenged,
we don’t hear it,
we don’t hear silence when it comes time for
showing respect and being silent,
and then joining the celebration, and showing true love.
