The feeling you get
when you are tired
but don’t want to sleep
and can’t sleep
and kind of don’t need to sleep,
yet need to sleep
you’ll be in the deepest
of deep, relaxing sleeps
when doctors say
complications include
everything
up to death
The feeling you get
when a new medical professional
is so excited
to learn about
a new person
and new things abut the body
and to help
The feeling you get
knowing in a few hours
a pesky pinky tumor will
be no more
The feeling you get
knowing brain functioning
and critical thinking
won’t work so well
for a brief while
The feeling you get
knowing life is short
and complex
and sad
and happy
The feeling you get
thinking about
recovery
The feeling you get
knowing in a few weeks
all should be better
The feeling you get
thinking about
powers of science and medicine,
family, friends, and knowledge
The feeling you get before surgery
Tomorrow morning I have my fourth surgery related to Neurofibromatosis. Unlike the others, this one is minor (day surgery!) and should mostly require just a few days of exclusive rest, but I have many memories of surgeries and other medical experiences They all make us stronger!
